The UK's departure from the European Union on 1 January 2021 fundamentally changed that landscape. Although the EU and UK reached the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) just days before the transition period ended, the agreement notably remains silent on judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters. As a result, businesses continue to face important questions about contracts, dispute resolution, and legal certainty.

Adding to this complexity is a broader backdrop of global trade instability. Businesses are increasingly navigating not only the consequences of Brexit, but also shifting international trade policies and tariff disputes. Recent uncertainty surrounding US trade policy, marked by frequent changes in tariff positions, has further highlighted the importance of robust contractual frameworks and careful risk management in international transactions.
